What your result means

eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) estimates how many milliliters of blood your kidneys filter per minute. 90 or above is normal. Values are grouped into KDIGO stages G1 to G5. A single low reading is not a diagnosis, kidney function is confirmed with repeat testing and other markers like urine albumin.

What is a normal eGFR?

An eGFR of 90 or above is considered normal. 60 to 89 is mildly decreased and often normal for older adults. Below 60 for three months or more may indicate chronic kidney disease.

What equation does this use?

It uses the CKD-EPI 2021 creatinine equation, the current race-free standard recommended by the National Kidney Foundation and used by most labs.

Is a single low eGFR a problem?

Not necessarily. eGFR can dip temporarily from dehydration, certain medications or a recent high-protein meal. Kidney disease is diagnosed from repeated results plus other markers, so confirm with your doctor.
